Kubuntu is an Ubuntu based distribution, that uses the KDE instead of gnome.

Kubuntu is the same distrubution as Ubuntu. The only different is the desktop environment, that is used. Instead of gnome Kubuntu uses the KDE 4 and it's adminstration tools. For example Kpackage as Packagemanager and updater. Kubuntu uses the same apt-sources as Ubuntu.
